Director of Percussion Studies Mr. Daniel Johnson is an active educator and performer in the Central Florida area. He is currently the Director of Percussion Studies at South Lake High School and the Director of Percussion at Wesley Chapel High School just outside Tampa. Dan was on staff at First Degree during the 2005-2006 season; the season in which they won the WGI World Championships in the Independent Open class. Recently, Dan has been on the percussion staff at East Ridge High School, the percussion instructor for the Rollins College Community School of Music, and is an instructor at "Penny's Camp" and the Yamaha "Sounds of Summer" percussion camps. He is currently a sub for the Village Beatniks at Disney's Animal Kingdom and was a Collegiate Musician for Walt Disney World from 2001-2003. He works actively as a freelance percussionist in the Orlando and Tampa areas. Dan was fortunate enough to tour Europe in the summer of 2005; performing with the USF Jazztet at various jazz festivals including North Sea, Montreaux, and Vienne. Dan holds an MM in Jazz Studies from the University of South Florida in addition to a Master's Certificate in Percussion Performance. Dan received his BA in Music from Rollins College in Winter Park, FL. He has studied drum set and percussion under Steve Davis, Bob McCormick, Danny Gottlieb, Beth Gottlieb, and Brian Slawson.
