
Screaming Eagle Regiment:
The Screaming Eagle Regiment is the marching portion of the band program. The Regiment performs at Football Games, Parades, Concerts, Community Events, and Marching Band Festivals and Competitions. The Regiment rehearses Tuesday evenings and Thursday afternoons during the Fall. Members of the Guard and Percussion sections also rehearse on Mondays. Membership in the Screaming Eagle Regiment is required of all members of the South Lake High School Band Program. The Regiment's major performances include the Florida Bandmasters Association (FBA) District 19 Marching Music Performance Assessment (MPA), the Florida Marching Band Coalition (FMBC) Regional Competitions, and the Florida Marching Band Coalition (FMBC) State Championships.
Wind Ensemble:
The Wind Ensemble is the upper level symphonic/concert portion of the band program. The Wind Ensemble performs at Concerts, Community Events, and Concert Band Festivals and Competitions. The Wind Ensemble rehearses Tuesday evenings during the Winter and Spring. Membership in a concert band is required of all wind and percussion members of the South Lake High School Band Program. The Wind Ensemble's major performances include the Florida Bandmasters Association (FBA) District 19 Concert Music Performance Assessment (MPA), the Florida Bandmasters Association (FBA) State Concert Music Performance Assessment (MPA), and other sanctioned concert band festivals.
Symphonic Band:
The Symphonic Band is the secondary symphonic/concert portion of the band program. The Symphonic Band performs at Concerts, Community Events, and Concert Band Festivals and Competitions. The Symphonic Band rehearses Thursday afternoons during the Winter and Spring. Membership in a concert band is required of all wind and percussion members of the South Lake High School Band Program. The Symphonic Band's major performances include the Florida Bandmasters Association (FBA) District 19 Concert Music Performance Assessment (MPA), the Florida Bandmasters Association (FBA) State Concert Music Performance Assessment (MPA), and other sanctioned concert band festivals.
Screaming Eagle Jazz Ensemble:
The Screaming Eagle Jazz Ensemble is the jazz portion of the band program. The Jazz Ensemble performs at Concerts, Community Events, and Jazz Band Festivals and Competitions. The Jazz Ensemble rehearses Wednesday afternoons during the Fall and Winter and Thursday afternoons during the Spring. Membership in the Screaming Eagle Jazz Ensemble is open to all members of the South Lake High School Band Program. The Jazz Ensemble's major performances include the Florida Bandmasters Association (FBA) District 19 Jazz Music Performance Assessment (MPA), the Florida Bandmasters Association (FBA) State Jazz Music Performance Assessment (MPA), the annual Lakeside Jazz Festival in Port Orange, and other sanctioned jazz band festivals.
Percussion Ensembles:
The Percussion Ensembles are the fully percussion focused portion of the band program. The Percussion Ensembles perform at Concerts, Community Events, and Percussion Festivals and Competitions. The Percussion Ensembles rehearse Monday afternoons during the school-year. Membership in the Screaming Eagle Percussion Ensembles is required of all percussionists in the South Lake High School Band Program. The Percussion Ensembles' major performances include the Florida Bandmasters Association (FBA) District 19 Solo and Ensemble (S&E) Music Performance Assessment (MPA), the Florida Bandmasters Association (FBA) State Solo and Ensemble (S&E) Music Performance Assessment (MPA), the Florida Federation of Colorguards Circuit (FFCC) Regional Competitions, the Florida Federation of Colorguards Circuit (FFCC) Championships, the Winter Guard International (WGI) Regional Competitions, the annual Central Florida Percussion Festival, and other sanctioned percussion festivals.
Guard Ensembles:
The Guard Ensembles are the fully movement, visual, and pageantry focused portion of the band program. The Guard Ensembles perform at Concerts, Community Events, and Guard Festivals and Competitions. The Guard Ensembles rehearse on Mondays during the Fall, and on Mondays and Thursdays during the Winter and Spring. Membership in the Screaming Eagle Guard Ensembles is open to any South Lake High School student, regardless of experience. The Guard Ensembles' major performances include the Florida Bandmasters Association (FBA) District 19 Solo and Ensemble (S&E) Music Performance Assessment (MPA), the Florida Bandmasters Association (FBA) State Solo and Ensemble (S&E) Music Performance Assessment (MPA), the Florida Federation of Colorguards Circuit (FFCC) Regional Competitions, the Florida Federation of Colorguards Circuit (FFCC) Championships, the Winter Guard International (WGI) Regional Competitions, the Winter Guard International (WGI) Spin Fest, and other sanctioned guard festivals.
Advanced Placement Music Theory (ON HIATUS):
This class is offered to all upper-classmen music students at South Lake High School. It is a college preparatory class, and it taught in a rigorous manner. Students receive Advanced Placement credit, and the course culminates with the Advanced Placement Music Theory Examination. Students may receive college equivalency for taking this course in high school. It definitely prepares students for entering college as a music major or music minor. The class typically meets 1st Period during the Spring, with some requirements that must be met through independent study during the Fall and Winter. Mr. Wright is certified by the College Board to teach Advanced Placement Music Theory.
Chamber Ensembles:
We offer several smaller ensembles for students to participate in that inlcude woodwind trios, woodwind quartets, woodwind quintets, woodwind choirs, brass trios, brass quintets, brass choirs, percussion quartets, percussion quintets, percussion sextets, percussion septets, and percussion choirs. These ensembles, while being featured on some our concerts throughout the year, also participate in the Florida Bandmasters Association (FBA) District 19 Solo & Ensemble Music Performance Assessment (MPA) and the Florida Bandmasters Association (FBA) State Solo & Ensemble Music Performance Assessment (MPA) each year. We encourage all Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, and Percussion Ensemble students to participate in these smaller chamber ensembles to further develop musicality. Our Guard program may, from time to time, also opportunity for smaller ensembles to participate in the Florida Bandmasters Association District 19 Auxiliary Performance Assessment, and the Florida Bandmasters Association State Auxiliary Performance Assessment.
